Candy Robertson Obituary
Candy Robertson
Candace Povey Robertson, 77, died at her home in Lafayette, California on Friday, February 27, 2026.
She died of lung cancer, which she had battled with determination, for over 15 months.
Candy was born in Long Beach, California on August 17, 1948, to Darrell and Elsie Povey. She was an only child, the apple of her parents' eyes. A sea captain's daughter, Candy grew up with salt on her skin and sand between her toes and developed a lifelong love of the ocean. After graduating from the University of Southern California in 1970 she enrolled in the Wharton School of Business. It was there that she met Peter James Robertson of Edinburgh, Scotland. Knowing that she had found the love of her life, Candy raced through school, graduating six months early.
She married Peter in Long Beach, California on December 29, 1971 and together, they began a life of adventure.
Between travel for Peter's work at Chevron and personal wanderlust, Candy traversed the globe throughout her life. She and Peter lived in Scotland, Illinois, California, England, Oklahoma and Texas and visited countless countries. She passed on to her children and grandchildren her passion for travel, taking them on meticulously planned expeditions, one highlight being an epic trip to a rhino conservation camp in South Africa. Her final trip was a three-week excursion to India just days before her diagnosis.
When not traveling, Candy dedicated herself to her family and her community. She was a devoted mother to her son, James and her daughters, Nicole and Jemma, helping them navigate their lives well beyond childhood. Wherever they settled, she followed, helping them create thoughtful homes for their families, from hanging pictures to managing renovations, she was there. Candy followed the lives and accomplishments of her seven grandchildren with delight, offering encouragement and advice, in equal measure.
Perhaps because of her frequent moves, Candy knew the importance of creating and maintaining social connections. She was a masterful event planner, generous hostess and thoughtful friend. Her fingerprints were a seen on a multitude of events from invitationals with the Half Rounders to Fleetwood Court baby showers, and of course, her children's weddings. No event was complete without an original poem, homemade food and a signature cocktail (often gin-based!)
Candy led a full life and will be remembered for her tireless dedication to those around her, particularly her family. She was the matriarch of her adoring clan and her loss is immense. She was loved by many, and her death will be deeply felt by family and friends across the world.
Candy is survived by her husband, Peter James Robertson, and her children, James Darrell Robertson (Anni) of Brooklyn, New York, Nicole Povey Hawkins (Scott) of Sevenoaks, England, and Jemma Robertson Kalberg (Leif) of Lafayette, California. She leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Adair Bluhm Robertson, Payton Povey Hawkins, Finlay Bruce Hawkins, Liam Robertson Hawkins, Maisie McNaughton Kalberg, Lachlan O'Connor Kalberg, and Aulay Robertson Kalberg and her beloved dog, Fergus.
