Jim ("Manner") was a great mentor and inspiration to me as a young player at the BTC. His steady and reliable hand helped guide me on and off the court, showing me true dedication and commitment to sport and life. Along with Gene Cantin and Torben Ulrich their kindred spirits are sorely missed but not forgotten.

Jim (Manner)was a true sportsman and great human being. He mentored me throughout my junior and collegiate career. He was kind and humble and patient and gave me much more than I ever deserved. But that is how he was with everyone. Tennis has lost a great friend, and I will miss his smile and easy laugh. My sympathy goes out to his family and many friends.

In the early 60's when I was learning the game at the BTC, Jim was the icon, the example of tennis, always friendly and encouraging to the junior members and a marvel to watch with his two handed strokes. We'll miss him.

Jimmy was one of the most gracious, sweet and kind beings I've ever known. His family lived next to my grandparents in Berkeley and I always adored time spent with him when I was a little girl! He popped into The Claremont Hotel the evening of our family celebration for our mother's 80th birthday, in 1995. We were all thrilled to see him! Such a lovely last memory of a precious guy!! My thoughts are with his family and the families of his brothers.
