I am always late in learning of the passing of people who influenced me over the years. Jim Steele hired me as an S.F. Taxi driver at 8th & Townsend in 1984 (after working for City and Veteran's for a number of years) He was very nice to me. When I finally left cab driving a year later, I went upstairs to his office to let him know I was leaving. Mr. Steele was so gracious and said "You are welcome back here any time" which I will never forget.

Jim Steele taught me alot about both business and personal character. I consider him a major influence on my almost 35 years in the San Francisco taxi industry. Via Con Dios, Mr Steele.

The taxicab industry today would not be the same had it not been for Jim Steele. From his earliest days as the General Manager of the DeSoto Sedan Company to the Open Stands issue of the early 1970's to the implosion of California Westgate and the creation of San Francisco's only owner managed, owner operated, owner driven taxicab cooperative, Jim Steele was the guiding hand. From the beginning he wanted to create the best place for owners, drivers and passangers. And he was successful. He will be missed by all who knew him, and all who knew Jim Steele, loved Jim Steele.
