Cynthia Jane Gilmer Logan (Jane), a loving wife, precious mother, and special grandmother peacefully passed away on August 27, 2013 in her home in Piedmont, CA, of natural causes. She was three weeks shy of her 80th birthday. Jane was born in Selma, AL, in September 1933 to Eugene T. and Jennie Mae Gilmer and was raised in Marion Junction, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Roscoe (Rock) H. Logan. She is survived by her son, Eugene T. DeRamus (Kathie); her daughter, Ellen J. Frasheski (Tim); her grandchildren, Kristin A. Frasheski (Bret Ingold), Bradley J. DeRamus, Erin J. Frasheski, Kenneth S. DeRamus (Rachel), Andrew M. DeRamus (Abbie), Megan E. Frasheski, and Ryan T. Frasheski; and her great grandchildren, Emma J. DeRamus, Clara P. DeRamus, Tanner S. DeRamus, Gus P. DeRamus, and Huck E. DeRamus.
Jane's life is distinguished not only by her love of family, but also through her philanthropy and devotion to education, medicine and the arts. She was a member of the Holy Names College board of regents and a school trustee. She along with her beloved husband, Rock, founded the R.H. and Jane Logan Endowed Scholarship that will make the gift of a Holy Names education possible for years to come. In addition, she established endowments for the R. H. Logan Scholarship at Washington State University and the Jane Logan Scholarship at Heritage University, WA. She and Rock also established the Foundation for Cardiac Research at UC San Francisco, and she served as a past board member of the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and the Providence Hospital Foundation of Oakland. She was a past board member of the Oakland Symphony, a supporter of the Five Star Night Meals on Wheels for Alameda County, and an active hostess for the International Host Committee of California. She promoted and led numerous fund-raisers for the San Francisco Symphony as well. Her highest recognition came on May 10, 2008 where the degree of Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters was conferred upon her by Holy Names University. At her commencement, the presenter, the Honorable Carol A. Corrigan, Associate Justice for the California Supreme Court said, "Jane G. Logan is a woman of tremendous talent and unbounded generosity. She was not a daughter of wealth or privilege, but she has made of her life a triumph, because of her great caring for those in need. Jane and her beloved husband Rock Logan were simply not the kind of people who sat on the sidelines. They rolled up their sleeves, called their friends and got busy working to make the world a better place." Her family that remain believe that she has left the world in a better place too.
Mrs. Logan's body will be laid to rest beside her husband, her mother and her father in Selma, AL. Her memorial and burial will be private. The family requests that those who wish, may leave notes and remembrances of Jane at the following email address: [email protected]. The family also requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the UCSF Memory and Aging Center/Neuroscience or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

I knew Jane the last few years of her life. She invited me to fly to San Francisco from Los Angeles on her private jet to attend the opening night of the San Francisco Opera with many of her friends. All who knew her spoke lovingly of her and her endless generosity and philanthropy. I am only sorry that I didn't meet Jane earlier to have shared more life experiences with her. RIP Jane. You have earned eternal peace and happiness.
