Jane Tonna Obituary

Jane Tonna
March 29, 1934 - October 13, 2022
Jane (Ivanica) Frances (Barulich) Tonna, Native of Olib, Croatia and late of Burlingame/Millbrae, San Mateo County resident for 37 years and San Francisco resident of 35 years, entered into rest on October 13, 2022, at the age of 88. "I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you." Isaiah 42:6 Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother (Nana), sister-in-law, and aunt; she has joined our Lord. She will be deeply missed by her children; son, David, (Marilyn) Tonna; daughters, Nancy Tonna, Diane (Rich) Pieretti, Debra (Gary) Prince; grandchildren, Stephen Tonna (Margery), Stephanie Tonna Hennessy, Lauren Pieretti-LaCoursiere (Lori), Garrett Prince (Madison); great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, and many cousins. Predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Tonna; parents, Frances and Peter Barulich; brothers, John Barulich and Juric Barulich; mother-in-law, Margaret Tonna Gardiner; step-father-in-law, George "Curly" Gardiner; father-in-law, Michael Angelo Tonna; sister-in-law, Diane Tonna Andrews; brother-in-law, Dave Andrews; and niece, Elizabeth Andrews. Born March 29, 1934, Jane arrived in the United States in 1950, 16 years old, after a long journey by ship from Olib, Croatia, with her mom and brother. She reunited with her father, separated for 11 years because of World War II. Jane was a woman of deep faith, who shared her trust in the Lord by how she handled life's joys, sorrows, and challenges. She prayed often, with rosary beads in hand. We remain, cherishing precious memories of traditional holiday meals, family get-togethers, and her eagerness to offer cooking advice whenever she was able. Multi-talented and creative, she began making hats for I. Magnin with her dearest and life-long friend, Nada Barulich, soon after arriving in San Francisco. She was later employed in a business office, working with comptometers. Jane (mom) enthusiastically responded to anything that involved sewing, crocheting, new craft ideas, and many of our school projects where she loved being involved. She was also great with numbers, teaching us mathematical tricks! Our grief is heavy, but our joy is that she is now reunited with the Lord, in our dad's embrace, and with all those who have passed before her. Our greatest appreciation to the physicians and support staff at Kaiser Permanente SSF, Mills Estate Villa Assisted Living, and Sutter Care at Home (Hospice) San Mateo. Funeral Services and burial will be private. She will rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma. Her family appreciates donations to Saint Anthony's Foundation, 121 Golden Gate Ave., S. F., CA 94139.
