Janice Roiz Obituary

Janice Marilyn Roiz

April 27, 1948 - January 20, 2019

Janice Marilyn Roiz, 70, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019 at her home of 50 years in Pacifica, California. Janice lived gracefully with cancer for 3 years before it took her life.

Janice was born in San Francisco and was the only child of the late Edith Carolyn Paizis and Lloyd M. Kohn. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband of 21 years, Glenn M. Roiz.
Janice is survived by her two children, Elisa (Matt) and Cyrus (Teresa), and her loyal beagle, Lily.

As a young adult in San Francisco during the 60's Janice participated in peace marches and always held Dr. Martin Luther King in high esteem. She passed away quickly, leaving her children to find it wondrous and fitting that it happened on MLK Day.

To all, Janice was known for her overall compassion, her kindness and her love of animals. She grew up across from the SF Zoo, where she and friend Kim would follow then zoo director, Carey Baldwin, as he made rounds to check on the animals. This privilege she recalled fondly throughout her life. There was no time when she didn't own a dog, sometimes more than one. Years ago she worked as a veterinary assistant, and volunteered at Peninsula Humane Society. She made many friends as she spent time with her dogs at Ft. Funston and Stern Grove. Janice's other passions included the Hawaiian island of Kauai, sharing meals and visits with friends and family, politics, beautiful music, the plight of the elephants and their matriarchal society, and her role as gentle and loving matriarch to her own small family.

In her final years Janice was less able to be active, but she took a few short trips, spent quality time with her children, their spouses, and her friends, doted on Lily the beagle, enjoyed her favorite foods, developed new friendships with caregivers Maria, Marissa, EnEn and JoAnne, and her trusted hospice team Anita, James, Catherine and Andrea. She was at peace.

A memorial service will be held sometime in the upcoming months. Please contact family for details. If interested, please consider a donation to Save the Elephants, ASPCA or Muttville, in memory of Janice.

I remember Ms. Janice well. Cyrus and I were good friends when we were very young. I will always remember her as a beautiful, peaceful and wonderful person. She was welcoming and she always had her loving dogs. I only wish I had known her better. We apparently had a lot in common with our love of San Francisco, animals and the ocean. Hawaii. Rest peacefully.
With Sincerity,
Debbie

It´s hard to believe 4 years have passed. There will
always be an empty spot in my Life that could only be filled with my Aunty Jan. I will never forget her endless support, kindness and encouragement. I can only hope to try and pass on some of this legacy to the loved ones in my life .

I miss her presence in my life. I'm thankful I spent time with her during her last year, but sorry I didn't get to say good-bye; the end came sooner than I expected.

It's hard to believe it's been a whole year since Jan left us; the memory of her laughter and her voice still resonates often in my thoughts.

I find that most families do not often access these pages to read the condolences posted. Should her children do so I would like them to know that I am deeply sorry for their loss. Jan was passionate about the plight of the wild animal kingdom, as well as the neglect of many pets. She very much admired Martin Luther King. I find it very fitting that she passed on his day.

Jan was my step-sister. I was 8 years old when Jans dad married my mom. I fell in love with Jan immediately. She was beautiful, intelligent, charming, and very very kind. I loved that she had become part of my family, and I will forever miss her.
