Jean Reba Bass Bradman died on March 16, 2016 at her home in Berkeley, California according to her wishes. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she grew up during the Great Depression and WW II. Her grandparents left Brooklyn for the country because of violence associated with their work organizing unions. She fondly remembered summers in the Catskills visiting their chicken farm and swimming in the Neversink River. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

My Aunt Jean Bass Bradman was truly a most amazing and inspirational woman. She was one of most intelligent and interesting people that I have ever known. She loved to learn, and later in life succeeded at becoming an attorney at a time that it was still quite difficult for a woman. She had a love for books, foreign films, history, music and learning about the world around her. I have fond memories of having many passionate discussions about books, movies or music that we both enjoyed. She was a beautiful person and loved her family very much. Jean and her sister Marilyn developed a wonderful bond, and together for many years they enjoyed traveling, having fun and exploring new places throughout our beautiful country. I looked forward every year for many years for Aunt Jean to come to Florida to visit, and she and Marilyn would put together a big luncheon so that the family could get together. Last year as I was sitting and talking with Jean, and discussing a movie, she said to me that she felt that this would be her last trip. I said to her no Aunt Jean, you have to live forever, we have so much more to talk about. To which she replied in her Aunt Jean way with a big smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes, "that's YOU, not me"!
We will truly miss her!

I was so sorry to hear of Jean's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Jean several years ago when she hired me to type various anecdotes of her very interesting life. Her intention was to give this memoir to her grandchildren. I don't know if she ever finished this writing or if she gave it to her family. I still have it on my computer. If you would like me to send it to you I would be happy to do so. (I can be reached at [email protected] or 510-237-0981.) My sincere condolences on your loss.
