Joan Halbert Obituary

Joan Corrinne Fisher Halbert Born on September 6, 1935. Passed away on July 12, 2009. Loving daughter of Richard E. Fisher and Mildred L. Steffen Fisher. Graduate of Lowell High School, 1952, UC Berkeley, Class of 1956 where she was a member of Mu Chapter of Chi Omega Sorority. Surviving Joan, formerly married to Douglas J. Halbert, Sr., are her three cherished children, Douglas James, Jr., Richard Alan and Kimberlee Louise. She is survived by her ten wonderful grandchildren: April, Amanda, Allison and Douglas James III Halbert (Doug/Michele Nelson), Christopher and Michael Halbert (Richard/Jennifer Phillips) and Annalisa, Rebecca, Karl B., Jr. and Jeffrey Young (Kim/Karl B. Young). She is also survived by her brother, Donald S. Fisher and his wife Sarah, of Visalia, CA and extended family members. "Family is the essence of life" Joan's greatest joys have been sharing in the lives her family: ceremonies of life, everyday living and wonderful travels to special destinations (Korea, England, China, Mexico, Canada, Guadalupe), on cruises (Caribbean, Mediterranean) and in many family adventures throughout the United States. Most recently of Moraga, CA, Joan's special interests were volunteerism, tennis, bridge, her daily constitutional (walk or jog) and art appreciation. Joan enjoyed the love of many dear friends who enriched her life. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Greater Bay Area Chapter, 235 Pine St., 6th Floor, SF, CA 94104-2745), National Ovarian Cancer Coalition-Walnut Creek, P.O.B. 2564, Walnut Creek, CA 94595-2564 or Hospice Foundation of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 A gathering of family and special friends has been planned.

Joan was a special lady and showed remarkable courage and dignity during her battle with Ovarian Cancer.
