It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and family member Thomas Christopher Aspell. Thomas passed peacefully on February 7th.
Tom was born on May 22, 1942 in San Francisco to Thomas and Anna Aspell. Tom's parents were born and raised in Cleggan, Ireland. They both came to the US individually and landed in California, and eventually reunited in San Francisco. They settled into the Ingleside neighborhood where they raised their two boys Thomas and Joseph.
Tom attended Saint Emydius elementary school. Soon the family moved to the Sunset District where Tom attended Riordan High School. Little did Tom know that the friends that he was making in elementary and High School were going to last his entire lifetime.
Tom started his career as an educator, and then soon went on to be a school administrator. He loved what he did and it showed. Tom made it his lifelong dedication to educating children and doing it all with a smile and positive loving personality.
Tom had a gift that cannot be taught: he truly loved people and people instantly felt it. His quick wit, easy smile, and the rare ability to strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone. Weather at church or a party, or the Twin Peaks, simply passing time with friends, Tom made people feel welcome, included, and entertained. His friendships were many and enduring.
A devoted SF sports fan, Tom passionately supported his beloved 49ers, Giants, and Warriors, and he was also a huge tennis fan as well.
Tom will definitely be remembered for his amazing Holiday event every season. For 30 years, Tom hosted a Holiday party that brought friends and family together from all over. Some friends even traveled from other countries to be a part of Tom's legendary Holiday event. The House was packed with love and smiles and laughter and that was all because of Tom.
Tom was predeceased by his long term partner Steven Marrow in 2003 and is survived by his brother Joseph Aspell, his many Godchildren, and a remarkably large circle of close friends who will miss his smile, wit, warmth and friendship deeply.
Visitation and Viewing will be held Friday February 27th from 3pm - 8pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday February 28th at 10am at Saint Emydius Church, 286 Ashton Ave., S.F.
