Joe Macias Obituary

Joe Macias

Joe was born in the Logan Barrio of San Ana, California. He attended School of Our Lady, Mater Dei High School, class of '66, where he made lifelong friends. Joe later served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970, and was stationed in Thailand.
In 1976, Joe moved to San Francisco where he lived for the rest of his life. He raised three sons in the City, and made countless friends. Joe also took up tennis shortly after moving to the city and it became one of his passions. He loved the game, the laughs it brought, and the friends he made playing at Dolores Park, and Mission Playground.
Joe worked for 30 years at Frito-Lay. After retiring, he continued to pursue his love of tennis, both on and off the court. Joe also enjoyed watching the Giants, traveling, reading, listening to an eclectic range of music, playing Scrabble, and completing the daily N.Y. Times crossword puzzle. Perhaps above all, Joe enjoyed good conversation with his friends and family, with a cold beer or martini in hand.
Joe was the king of the one-liners and his many friends will miss his sharp wit and wicked sense of humor. We will also miss his sage wisdom, empathy, intellect, and ability to connect with everyone he met.
Joe passed away on May 30, after a year of bravely living with ALS. He left a loving wife Rona, sons Joaquin, Raul, and Diego, and brother Fernando. A remembrance event will be held for Joe from noon to 4 pm on June 30, at Slovenian Hall, San Francisco.

A day without Joe is a day without sunshine. He was the original non hip hipster & wore a cobra snake for a necktie. A grand amigo, later dude, save me a seat.
