John W. Egan "Jack"

July 20, 1928 - March 23, 2018

John W. Egan "Jack" passed away on March 23, 2018 in Walnut Creek, CA. at the age of 89.

Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanette Muscat Egan, his daughter Corinne Cole (husband Doug), his son's Bill Egan (wife Elaine), and John Egan (wife René). He is preceded in death by his daughter Lori Jean Egan, parents Bill and Lillian Egan, and sister Margaret "Peggy" Donohoe (husband Bill). He will be missed by his grandchildren; Ryan Cole (wife Polly), Casey Cole (wife Kate), Kelli Cole and Jared Jack Egan. His great-grandchildren; Clementine Cole, Quillan Cole, and Nora Cole. His in-laws John Muscat (wife Chris), Joe Muscat (wife Miriam), Jim Muscat Jr. departed, Eugene Muscat departed (wife Stella departed), wife Lahle Muscat, Karin Donohoe. His nephews and nieces: Dennis Donohoe, Kevin Donohoe, Lynn Donohoe Miller (departed), Joey Muscat, Michael Muscat, Victoria Muscat, Jason Muscat, Alex Muscat, Christian Muscat, Catherine Donohoe along with their families.

Jack was born in San Francisco in 1928, graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1952 and married the love of his life Jeanette Muscat that same year. Jack and Jeanette raised their four children (Lori, Bill, Corinne and John) in Saint Gabriel's parish in the Sunset District. Their home was full of love and often a gathering spot for Jack and Jeanette's friends along with their children's friends from the neighborhood. Jack enjoyed a crowd and was always willing to share words of encouragement and a smile.

Jack had a passion for sports and a good time. He was a devoted fan of the SF Giants, Niners, and Notre Dame Football. One of Jack's traditions was to gather his friends and the friends of his son's to cheer on Notre Dame when playing USC in Los Angeles. A perfect combination; family, friends, sports, road trip, and a party. Many memories were made on these and other gatherings orchestrated by Jack.

Jack especially loved the San Francisco Giants and had attended every San Francisco Baseball Opening Day starting with the SF Seals in 1937 through last year's Giants opener in 2017. Jack and Jeanette attended Giants Spring Training from 1965 through 2017. Last year at the age of 89 Jack attended over 40 home games along with his son Bill.

Jack was an easily recognized San Francisco figure. After contracting polio in 1954 he walked with crutches. He navigated the halls of San Francisco's Hall of Justice and City Hall serving as a Court Reporter in the Superior Court along side his lifelong friend Judge Francis McCarty. Polio did not slow him down, he could go anywhere and do anything.

Jack will be missed for his passion to help others succeed. His love of family and sports. His willingness to share with new and old friends and his smiling Irish Eyes.

Looking at that wonderful smile was like looking at Jack Lemmon. He could have passed for his double in any of Jack's movies.

Dear Egan Family,
So very sorry for your loss. My parents Joe & Evelyn Rydberg met the Egan family when my sister Laura moved into Clausen House in Oakland around the same time as Lori. That smile of Jack's and his kind heart will always be remembered. Hold onto to all those fun and fond memories. Janet(Rydberg) & Rich Isely
