I met John only briefly through his wife and long time friend of mine Carole Garcia. Their deep devotion to each other and to their family and careers in ecology was a model of timeless commitment in today's world. May he rest in peace and flyfish while there.

Very sad to know that John has recently passed way. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Carole, Margaux and all bereaved family members & friends.
I first met John in 1998 when I started my first job as Environmental Technician at Kali Gandaki 'A' Hydroelectric Project in Nepal. He was my mentor, manager and later a grant provider (as part of my MSc Programme in 2000-01). I found him as a true friend of Nepal. He was full of knowledge and wisdom and a true professional in many fields. He made a lasting contribution in environmental sustainability by advancing new and integrated approaches in environment and development, particularly in water resources management including hydropower development.
We will always remember you as our true friend.

Toto you meant more to me than you can ever know. You were my cousin, father figure, mentor and companion. You instilled in me a love and respect for life, beauty, the planet and all flora and fauna. You allowed me to tag along with you through a thousand adventures into the wilds of Old Florida. Cold, wet and tired, walking and sometimes running all night, these were some of my favorite memories that I hold close to my heart. I can still hear those old hound dogs baying. It was you and me against the world. Because of you I tried to become the best person that I could be. You reached out and touched so many people during your lifetime and left the earth a better place because of it. You are one of a kind and it was a heck of a ride. You will be missed. Every time I think of you it brings a smile to my face. I will never forget you. Love Always Daniel
