Passed into Heaven Dec 10, 2013 surrounded by his daughters. The son of Irish immigrant parents, Michael Mahoney and Catherine O'Rahilly, Jack was born Nov. 16, 1927, a 1st generation San Franciscan, very proud of his Irish heritage. Family was the center of Jack's life, 2nd only to love of God & Catholic faith.
Jack married his true love Rita Jan 27, 1951. Devoted to each other, they raised 7 children in SF, Sacramento, and Moraga. In retirement they relocated to Sherwood, OR.
Jack attended Most Holy Redeemer, SI, St. Joseph's Seminary and USF. He worked for McCoy Church Goods, becoming part owner before starting a successful insurance career.
Jack's Gaelic charm was infectious - he lit up a room by simply showing up. He loved "Irish Cousins Lunches" @ the UICC. His singing was legendary, he loved good jokes, stories & golf. His kind heart & affectionate nature were known to all. Chats with boyhood friends brightened his days. Devotion to weekly mass, the Blessed Sacrament & daily rosary remained until end of his life.
Devoted husband of Rita for 57 yrs; beloved dad of late Michael & John; survived by daughters Deb, Janet, Mary (John) Greathouse, Rita (Cliff) Mott and son Jim (Trish); brother of late Mary Flynn; cherished Grandpa to Scott, Jeff, Chris, Shannon, Mike & Kelli. His shining example of unwaivering faith in God, love, loyalty, forgiveness and hard work are his legacy.
All invited to attend Funeral Mass Dec. 16th @ 11 am, Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento, CA. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital.

Dear Dad,
It has been a year, 1 month and 2 days since you left us all. Dad, you and mom were so well loved and cared about by everyone that knew you both. You are still so well loved and will be missed always. I know that you are both in a better place, you are together and you are with God. Dad as we used to say "how good is that?"
Dad, you and mom were so kind and loving to everyone; the depth of my sadness at losing you both is indescribable. Dad, please know how much I did and will always love you and mom. You were the two most important people in my life. I just will not ever get over losing you both.
Go with God. Love to you and mom,
Your daughter Deb xoxoxoxo

Thank you, Dad, for being the best dad in the world. And for the beautiful foundation of faith in God that you and Mom provided for us. I remember you kneeling at the foot of your bed, praying, every morning before work. And when we were old enough to go out the door to work, you always said "Keep the faith! And do nice work!" You modeled Christ-likeness in our lives, your entire life. I love that you are with Him now.
Thank you that your life allowed us to experience the fullness of God: faith, joy, peace, provision, miracles, generosity, forgiveness, hope. And most of all, LOVE. I will always love you, my sweet Jackie O'Shea. And til we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dear Mahoney Family,
I was blessed to get to know John as the father of my great high school friend Janet. I was always so touched by his warmth and humor, his kind and level-headed nature, and his obvious faith. Having later married my husband, who had also been studying to be a priest before we were married, I learned the depth of John's commitment to his Catholic faith and the paths that he had chosen at various times in his life. John was a true man of God - of faith - and he was a true blessing to all who came into his life.

Dear Mahoney Family,
We came to know and love your father through his insurance business and have always regarded him as a man who possessed the highest level of ethics and integrity as well as someone with immense charm, wit and humor. It was such a pleasure to know whatever recommendation he made was always in our best interest. We feel blessed to have been part of his life, as he was certainly part of ours. He will be missed as a kind and dear friend.
