John Mahoney Obituary

John D. Mahoney July 17, 1914 - February 26, 2007 Born and raised in Butchertown. Class of 1931, Mission High. Called up as a brand new father, he served with distinction in the Army in England in WWII. He returned to the States and served in the postal service for 37 years. After retirement, he and his wife Lorraine moved to Petaluma, where he was fortunate enough to live in good health and full possession of his faculties for another 37 years. He took care of Lorraine until her death in 2004 and her brother Bill Mooney until his in 2005. His own life was taken suddenly in a traffic accident on a country road on Lorraine's 88th birthday. Survived by his sons John Jr. and Ed and their wives Tita and Linda; grandchildren, Karena, Michelle, Jennifer, Tita, Josh, and Danny Mahoney and Thomas Graves; great-grandchildren, Rylie and Emma Becerra, and Sophia and John Paul Larson. His great-grandson Tommy Graves died at 16 in 2005. One of 11 children, John is also survived by his cherished sisters, Edna and Deanie Hingsbergen, the two sisters who married two brothers.Known to them as "Uncle Johnny," he leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and their offspring. He will be fondly remembered by the many friends he made on Trellis Lane in Petaluma. His neighbor Leota Fisher, long-term running mate and a great help to John, Lorraine and Bill, will miss him sorely. Wally Ortiz, one of the few who still survive him from the old Butchertown days, will miss their daily chats. He never had an unkind word for anyone, nor anyone for him. He was truly loved. A Burial Service will be held on Monday, March 12, 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA; reception to follow at Historical Old Molloy's. His life will be celebrated at Mass on Saturday, March 17th, 10 a.m., St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway, Petaluma, CA. The family prefers donations to the Mahoney Family Scholarship Fund, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, 80 Wellington Ave., Daly City, CA 94014, or to Petaluma Meals-on-Wheels.

Dear Ed and John, we are very sad Uncle Johnny is gone. We
will miss him and Aunt Lorraine. as they were always bright spots
in our lives from the beginning. Always genuinely happy to see us
and making us feel loved. The Moran family counts them among our
role models as today we hope we're resembling them both.
