John F Ross died December 27 th 2022 at the age of 87. Born in Beaver Falls, PA on October 9 th 1935. He moved to California in 1957 and spent most of his life here. He attended the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1953 and then going to Yale University where he graduated with a BE degree with honors in1957. In 1972 he received an MBA from Golden Gate University. As a youth he was active in the Boy Scouts and earned the award of an Eagle Scout.
John was hired by Standard Oil Co. of California, (Cheveron) at college and went to work in San Francisco following graduation. Starting in the Corporation Engineering Dept he held a wide variety of positions in numerous locations, ending as a Vice-president of International Product Marketing when he retired after 36 years. He met his wife, Elizabeth Diane "Dee Dee" Ahrens at Standard Oil and they were married 21 June 1958. John was always active in the Lutheran Church and served on many Boards and Committees over the years, most recently as a Director of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livermore, CA. He took up golf after retirement and loved to play as often as he could. In addition, he enjoyed spending time at a Lake Tahoe vacation house in Zephyr Cove, NV, liked sailing, model railroading, the theater, and movies. He was a member of the Discovery Bay Country Club and Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife and two adopted children, Gary Reeves Ross of Pleasant Hill and Jill Carole Kirby of Sacramento, CA, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
