JOHN "HOMER" "JACK" STEINY

JOHN STEINY Obituary

John "Jack" "Homer" O. Steiny
May 17, 1922 - Nov. 11, 2012
Jack had three precious days of lively interaction with his family, friends and colleagues, before dying peacefully at home on Sunday, November 11th. His family is deeply grateful to have had the time to play him his favorite songs, reminisce and express their love. He enjoyed that time so much, he said he was "in heaven."
Called "Homer" by friends and family and "Jack" by his colleagues, John was born in San Francisco to Homer Julius and Maybelle Olerich Steiny.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Nancy, a psychotherapist, whom he met at Stanford University. They have four children. Julia Steiny of Providence, Rhode Island; Nancy Borris of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Susan Steiny of Oakland, California; and John Thorp "J.T." Steiny of Los Angeles. Jack and Nancy have 8 grandchildren. In 2001 they fulfilled a lifelong dream of building a house at Lake Tahoe.
In the early 1950s, Jack founded Steiny and Co., now one of California's principal electrical contracting companies. He began small, in an office behind his home where he and his wife Nancy raised their children. Over time, the Company expanded to offices all around California.
As a charismatic, spiritual, witty and savvy leader, Jack adored everything about doing business. A risk taker, a provocateur, an inspiration, he was impossible to ignore or forget, and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 17th, at St. James Church - 3903 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90010.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Jack's memory to the Southern California Counseling Center - 5615 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90019.

Although I never knew John, I know that he and Nancy had a wonderful life together. I celebrate John and all the joy he brought to Nancy and so many others.

My deepest condolences to the Steiny Family. Mr. Steiny had a profound effect on our family providing my father Richard Heaps wonderful opportunities which in turn led to opportunities that would have never existed for me. He touched so many lives some he never even knew. I know he will be missed by many and I personally will be forever grateful.

As a business person he was one of the best. Always ready to listen to what one had to say. I will remember all of the company picnic's and Christmas party's that we shared together. Really sorry for your loss.
