John Strange Obituary

John Basil Strange
September 25, 2021 - December 25, 2021
John "Jack" Basil Strange passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his Petaluma home on Saturday, December 25, 2021.
Dearly beloved husband of Carolyn Strange, father of Jeff and Jessica, Stepfather of Gregg (Rondye), Amy (Sam) and Ayn. The adored Boppa of Jacob, Erika, Brock, Jacknyde, Aydan, Jackelyn and Emma. Brother of Bill (Merilyn) Strange and Peggy (Mike) Neff. Predeceased by parents William Joseph and Elizabeth Hendren Strange.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Graduate of Saint Ignatius High School, and attended San Francisco State.
Jack enjoyed a 30 year career for the San Francisco Fire Department. He was very proud to serve with all the fire fighters he worked with over the years. He retired as a Lieutenant for Engine 42.
Often referred to as "The Commissioner" of the Strange Group golf foursome on Wednesdays at Rooster Run. He loved to golf, gather with friends at the Petaluma Elks Lodge 901, and BBQ with family. He was deeply committed to his Catholic faith and will be remembered for his love of Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, self-deprecating humor and love of Rush Limbaugh.
Mass will be held at St. James and officiated by Father Michael Culligan on April 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. Petaluma Elks Lodge 901 to follow. Parent-Sorensen is making final arrangements.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. James Church of Petaluma and St. Joseph Health Hospice of Petaluma.

I love you Dad and miss you everyday. You were alway there for me. You are still in my heart and will always be. The decades we had in Petaluma @ O Neal, Sultana, Madison and Trellis are my most cherished memories of the families we once had. Life changes everyday but the love of a father and son never goes away. You have been blessed with an incredible life and relationships of so many people that loved you. Oh the stories we could tell.

I feel very privileged to have called Jack a friend. Carol and I remarked many times about his excellent manners and politeness. He was the epitome of a gentlemen.
I'm sure that he will be missed by his many friends that he made on the golf course, where he always was available to donate his time and expertise sharing his organizational skills. He was blessed with a wife that he loved very much and always spoke of her in a kind and caring manner.
Don and Carol Griffith extend their heartfelt sympathy to Carolyn and the
Strange family. Jack will be in Heaven I'm sure waiting for all of you.

Still look fondly on all of our discussions at the Elks, we did solve most of the world's problems. Jack's only failing was being a SI Grad and mine was being one from SH. Sorry we will not be in attendance @ services in CA, RIP JACK!

Jack "anything but" Strange.....worked with him on occasion as I was detailed to 42 Engine....respected him as a person and as an upstanding gentleman and fellow human....and as a fine officer who ruled his station with a fair and confident hand....my condolences on his passing I'm sure he will be sorely missed by his friends and family....God Bless him on his next journey....Blessing to those left behind!!!

It truly was a pleasure to have worked with Jack Strange for many years while I was at Engine 44 and he was at Engine 42. ,He was an Officer that treated you like a true equal at a fire or other emergency scene. I never seen Jack loose his cool. What made Lt. Jack Strange shine above most officers was that after a fire or other emergency situation he would tell his crew "Good job guys" now less go home. He was someone you could always count on. I'm proud to have known and worked with Jack Strange for many years, but more proud to have called him a friend. Jack you made Station 42 what it is today and what I will always remember. We ALL will miss you. Jim Q
