John Twomey Obituary
August 28, 1932 - May 10, 2022
John Twomey died peacefully on May 10, 2022 at the age of 89.
The son of Earle and Eleanor Mayon Twomey, John grew up in Oakland. He was a proud alum of Our Lady of Lourdes and had many fond memories of sailing his small boat on Lake Merritt as a young boy. At the age of 15, he moved to Orinda, and later graduated from Acalanes High School. John served in the Navy and went on to graduate from the University of San Francisco. He married Eleunore Neldam, and they had 4 children. In 1988 he married Margaret Swift. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, sons Steve and Larry, daughters Molly and Barbara, sons-in-law Bruce and Martin, brother Jim, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Ron.
John was constantly on the move, and he was an avid skier and hiker. His idea of a perfect day was boating on Lake Tahoe. He also loved to travel. John will be remembered by his many friends for his kindness, generosity, commitment to family and devotion to faith as well as for his abundant energy and love of a dry martini.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Maria Church, 40 Santa Maria Way, Orinda, 94563. A reception at the church will follow. My wife and I have such wonderful memories of
the couple of times we spent at the big Tahoe house. You and John's hospitality was absolutely
incredible. Our memories of our couple of times there are wonderful. Maybe I appreciate such things more now that I am 'old'.
If you don't remember us, it is a long time ago, I
was, at that time, a good friend of Ron. Also very
sorry about him.
But the memories we have of the big Tahoe house, and of you and John... Thank you.
