Joseph Hyland Obituary

Joseph L. Hyland Returned to the loving arms of Jesus on June 22, 2010 after a short illness. Joe was dearly loved by his devoted wife of 55 years, Flo. Cherished father of Mike, Karen Arzave (Bob), Bobby (Lisa), Susie Cozad (Randy), Kevin (Rosemary), and Michelle Gowan (Bob). Adored grandfather of Tony, Jessica, Joey, Stephanie, Kyle, Gary, Molly, Jackie, Taylor, Ryan & Bryan and his grandson-in-law, Rob. Also survived by his brothers, Dan (Maureen) & Jack (Delores). Joe was a very loving uncle to 36 nieces and nephews. He graduated from St. Ignatius in 1950 and went on to USF and UC. Joe served in the Navy for 4 years. After a long career at PG&E, he enjoyed his retirement by traveling, cheering for the Giants & 49ers, and participating in any and all events involving his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll & Agnes Hyland, siblings, Peggy, Pat & Joann Dow. A very special thanks to Dr. Alice Yeh and Peggy O'Leary, RN, and her wonderful and caring staff at Kaiser SSF. Joe's life will be celebrated with a Memorial Mass at St. Monica's Church, 5920 Geary Blvd., SF on July 10th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to your favorite charity.

Please accept my sympathies at this time. I remember Joe as a happy, kind man. Always with a smile on his face. My love to all the Hylands. I will be away for his Memorial Mass, but will remember him in my prayers. Lorraine D'Elia
