It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joseph Potter announce his peaceful passing on December 17th, 2024 at the age of 89.
Joseph Potter, lovingly known as "Big Joe" to his loved ones and "Papa" to his grandchildren, was born in San Francisco in 1935. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and spent his deployment in Germany and France. Once back in the states he began work at a printing press. It was there that he met his wife, Barbara. They fell in love and were married in 1964. They had three children, Joseph Jr, Susan, and Michael. He changed career paths several years later and started a new career in the Daly City Public Works Department until he retired. He spent his retirement traveling the world with the love of his life on countless cruises and adventures.
His kids blessed him with 5 grandchildren, Krystina, Alex, Shelby, Matthew, and Thomas who he loved and supported endlessly through countless basketball games, recitals, presentations, and graduations.
He was a kind, loving, and proud family man. He was a devoted practicing Roman Catholic who never missed weekly mass at Our Lady of Mercy, where he was a proud usher. We celebrate his life and his return to his mother Margaret and uncle Edward. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Barbara, his three children Joseph Jr, Susan, and Michael, and his five grandchildren Krystina, Alex, Shelby, Matthew, and Thomas.
His family feels forever grateful to have been blessed with such an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Join us to celebrate the life of Joseph Potter.
A viewing will be held at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City on Sunday, December 29th from 4-8pm, with a rosary at 6:00pm.
His funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 1 Elmwood Dr., Daly City on Monday, December 30th at 10:30am.
A burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma directly following the funeral mass where he will receive military honors.
