Josephine Ann "Jo Ann" Dean

Josephine Dean Obituary

Josephine Ann "Jo Ann" Dean Passed away on Saturday Aug. 26, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was 81. Jo Ann was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth O. Dean and the loving mother of Kenneth "Kayo" Dean and his wife Kathy, Kathy Greene and her husband Bob, Mark Dean and his wife Anita, Diane Verner and her husband Mike and Cyndi DiSanto and her husband Marty. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, Bob Greene, K.D. and Kelli Dean, Kimberly Mulron, Jennifer, Christine, Robert and Melissa Verner, Christa, Jessica, Blake and Brianna DiSanto, Adele, Allyn and Josie Dean; eight great-grandchildren, Shannon, Shea, Jordan, Reg, Heather, Allyson, Savannah and Payton; her sister Janet Bliss; her brother Mark Farnum and many dear friends. Her sister Evelyn Main predeceased her. In addition to mothering her own children and later her grandchildren, she was a second "Mom" or "Grandma" to their friends. You could stop by and she'd make breakfast, lunch or a snack after school and she would want to hear all about your day. Jo Ann and Ken were known for their great parties, especially on the 4th of July. She was an avid bridge player and a member of AWVS and WAIF International. She started the first hot lunch program and worked on many fundraisers at St. Bartholomew's school. She was a room mother at Baywood School and an avid supporter of SMAC and GGAC, where she wouldn't miss a swim meet of her daughters Diane and Cyndi, and later, her grandchildren Bobby and Kimberly. When she was less mobile and couldn't give of her time, she donated to numerous charities, especially those benefiting children and animals. Jo Ann touched the lives of many and she will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Labor Day, September 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church, corner of the Alameda de las Pulgas and Crystal Springs Road in San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Peninsula Humane Society, 12 Airport Blvd. San Mateo, CA 94401 in the name of Jo Ann Dean.
