Love to Peter and Jane
I know that Judith will leave a huge hole in your heart. A loving sister and sister in law, loving wife, incredibly smart woman and encourager and mentor to others. She leaves the legacy of her work but also loving memories and cherished relationships. Thinking of you and all those whose lives Judith has touched and enriched. Marguerite

I was sad to read of Judith´s death in the Wellington paper this morning. She was a great companion when we were both working on our anthropology theses at Victoria University: intellectually vigorous, along with humane humour, insightful comment, and concern for inequities. Her laughter after a wry observation remains with me still.

I first met Linda and Judith when I interviewed for a research assistant position and that was the beginning of a long and deeply meaningful relationship. Judith was a strong advocate personally and professionally in ways that changed my world. Over the years we became fast friends and our friendship endured despite my move to Humboldt. We took occasional weekend trips that often-included Norman and Steven. Two adventures in particular I remember well. Calistoga: soaking in a hot spring fed jacuzzi, picnic lunches, scrabble and dominos, amazing dinners, and wide-ranging discussions. Sea Ranch: walks along the shore - whale and bird watching, old movies, games, Linda and me cooking up a storm, and the pleasure of being together as the sun set
Though many, many memories are of Linda and Judith together, others are uniquely Judith.
o Love of animals (pretty much all)
o Children´s toys, games, literature and stories. She could play like a kid and her delight was infectious
o Preference for chicken over lamb she said was residual of her NZ upbringing
o Joy in fixing, creating, and fiddling with jobs around the house and garden
o Tough as nails, telling it as she saw it, doing the hard work necessary to make sure whatever needed doing would happen
o Murder mysteries of international breadth - I particularly loved the British Flavia de Luce series in which the main protagonist is an 11-year-old girl and Bruno, the police chief series, set in the Dordogne region of France with wonderful food and friends.
As I wander down memory lane, things continue to pop up but I will stop writing now and just say that Judith (and Linda) will forever be in my heart.
