Julia Farrah Obituary

Julia Narchi Farrah February 10, 1911 - April 18, 2006 Returned peacefully from our hands into the loving hands of God on April 18, 2006, of natural causes, surrounded by her family at home. A native of Damascus, Syria, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George Farrah; her parents, the late Anise and Soraya Narchi; and her brother, the late George Narchi. Julia was the beloved mother of Joseph, Michael and the late Edward Farrah, and mother-in-law of Emily Farrah and Julie Driscoll Farrah. Adored "Sittoo" (grandmother) of Theresa, Nicholas and the late Paul Farrah, Dean and Gibran Farrah, Michael Jr. (Maya Draisin), Anne, Soraya and the late George Farrah. Doting great-grand-mother of Moriah and Jordan Farrah. Julia Narchi Farrah arrived in the United States in 1928 as a young woman, accompanied by her husband George. She settled in the Excelsior district, and embraced San Francisco as her home for 78 years. She led a life dedicated to the happiness of her family and in return enjoyed a family deeply dedicated to her. The Farrah family matriarch, Julia was happiest when she was in the kitchen of the family home above Farrah's Department Store and Farrah's Shoes on Mission Street, where many relatives worked in the family businesses. She was a gifted cook who loved preparing Arabic feasts and enthusiastically passed along this culinary tradition to her great-grandchildren, grandchildren and sons. Julia's lessons to her family were simple: cherish your faith; work hard; love your family and do not allow the excess and trappings of modern life divert you from these priorities. Also, remember to always recycle. Julia was a joyful, lighthearted and vivacious spirit. She loved to laugh, sing and dance to Arabic music, and was blessed with a mischievous sense of humor. Julia's kindness, advice, generosity and warmth will be missed, and her memory will be cherished and treasured by the many who loved her. All family and friends are invited to an evening Vigil Service on Sunday, April 23rd beginning at 7:30 p.m., with Visitation starting at 6:00 p.m., at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24th at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 5200 Diamond Heights Blvd., San Francisco, CA. Interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lions Eye Foundation, PO Box 7999, S.F. 94120 or your favorite charity are preferred.

I was very saddened to hear of Julia's passing. She was one of my favorite people and I continue to use the recipes she taught me. We did a lot of laughing and hugging when we were in each others company. Bill and I have a granddaughter named Julia. I loved her very much. Love, Myrna
