Julio Donati Obituary

Julio A. Donati Born October 12, 1922 in Olivola, Italy. Passed peacefully while surrounded by his loving family March 1, 2006, in Burlingame, at the age of 83. Beloved son of the late Severino and Elisa Donati; devoted husband of the late Elvina Donati; loving brother of the late Marino Donati. Julio is survived by his sons, Steven (Maylin) of Foster City and Paul (Ellen) of Burlingame; his daughter Elisa Donati-Klunis (Mark) of San Bruno; and six grandchildren: Gino, Daniel, Alexandra, Michael, Paulo and Dominic; his sister-in-law Nancy Varni of South SF; his cousin Mauritzio Bongi; and Julio's extended family in Italy; and many nieces and nephews. Julio lived a full, happy and productive life surrounded by a wealth of family and friends. A gentleman of kind spirit and generous heart, he will always be remembered for his positive, caring and loving nature. Born in Italy and forever proud of his Italian heritage and culture, Julio emigrated to the United States at the age of 9. Julio graduated from South SF High School and then joined his father and brother in business as proprietors of the Orange Tavern, the New Southern Restaurant and Buri Buri Liquors, all prosperous South SF businesses. Longtime member of the Young Men's Institute of South SF, the South SF Chamber of Commerce, the Italian Catholic Federation and the former San Bruno Optimist Club. Julio lived a good life, whether playing Pedro or golf with his many close friends, cooking his wonderful Italian specialties, or spending valued time with his family at home or during many memorable vacations. The family is especially grateful for Julio's special or lifelong friends, including his companion in later years, Caroline Fregosi, Larry Bertolucci, Lindy Viglizzo and Chris Ramos. Devoted, loving husband to his late wife of 30 years, Elvina, Julio was also a caring, supportive father to his children and their families, reminding them always to stay close and "keep family first." Throughout his life he led them by his example. Julio cherished his grandchildren and kept them close to his heart - they will dearly miss their "Papa." He loved animals, particularly his "Italian" cat, Bruno. All who were blessed by his cheerfulness, his hospitality, his generosity and kindness will miss him and forever hold the memory of his life in their hearts. Rosary to be held Monday, March 6, 2006, 7:00 p.m., Crosby N. Gray & Co., 2 Park Road, Burlingame. Friends may also visit beginning at 4:00 p.m.. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated March 7, 2006, 10:00 a.m., Our Lady Of Angels Catholic Church in Burlingame, followed by Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Julio's name to the National Kidney Foundation, the Y.M.I. or I.C.F youth scholarship funds.

Dad,
Can't believe you have been gone for four Christmas holidays!! My best memory of you is sitting at the holiday table and seeing you look at all of us with such pride and happiness in your eyes. You always knew what was really important in life--family! We were all so lucky to have you in our lives for so long. I miss you each and every day!
Love, Lisa-your favorite daughter(the only one!)

Life will not be the same without you in our life. You are truly missed.

Thank you for leaving behind so many good memories and for being such a wonderful father-in-law to me. This world would be a better world if there were more Julio's in it.

To The Donati Family,

I was sorry to hear of Julio's passing. As Lisa so eloquently put it, Julio absolutely lived his life to the fullest. I have many fond memories of our family gatherings in Burlingame, Boulder Creek and SSF! I'm was happy to learn of all his grandchildren. I am sure he is proud of each of you. I don't think Julio ever knew my real name and always called me by my nickname. As an adult, I rarely saw Julio, but whenever I did he would yell out my name(nickname) and give me a huge smile and it would make me laugh every time. Rest in Peace Julio Diane

Julio was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed. He has always been a great friend to our family and to our Grandpa Chris. I have many fond memories of Julio -- from the times we used to go in for candy at the liquor store when we were young to his smiling presence at our family weddings and special occasions. His spirit will never be forgotten. May God bless his family and be with you during this time.

Julio will be missed by all in the Parenti and Capella families! We appreciate the many years of love and companionship he shared with our Aunt Caroline and we will miss our adopted "Uncle Julio". He was always present for our holiday, birthday, and family gatherings with a big smile and lots of stories. We wish love and peace to the Donati family.
