Kartar Dhillon Obituary

Kartar Dhillon 1915 - 2008 Kartar Dhillon was a writer and political activist. She published "Parrot's Beak" in "Making Waves: An Anthology of Writings By and About Asian American Women." She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Punjabi American Heritage Society and is included in "Distinguished Asian Americans: A Biographical Dictionary." Ms. Dhillon will be remembered for her compassion, strength, and insuppressible spirit by her children: Ayesha Gill; Dildar Gill Pisani and husband, Bob; Pritam Gill (deceased); her grandchildren Piara Andersen; Erika Surat Andersen and husband, Juergen Mandelke; Shaun Treadway and Maria Stephens; Braddock Treadway and wife, Jennifer; Stephany Treadway; Susan Pisani and partner, Cynthia; Karen Pisani; grandchildren-at-heart Charanjit Meeku Kapoor; Sarah Andrews; and great- grandchildren, Gill Andersen; Max and Gloria Treadway; Vincent Pisani; Spencer Pisani; Alessandra and Talia Mandelke. A memorial celebration of her life is on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m., Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley at 1 Lawson Road Kensington. The family suggests donations to the Middle East Children's Alliance, 1101 8th Street, Berkeley, CA 94710, or a hospice of your choice.

A very interesting life and a worthy one. For you are an idealist, sincere in your endeavors and a connection to the past, what a legacy. A sense of kinship because both my maternal and paternal grandmother's were Dhillons.

As a Sikh, I will pray a silent prayer for you that the Universe bless you.
