Katharine Ann Murphy aged 93, was granted eternal rest on 5/11/24 surrounded by her family. Kay was born to Patrick and Catherine Sullivan in SF on 11/23/30.
Kay was predeceased by her daughters Mary Murphy-Piro and Annie Murphy-Waite. She is survived by her husband Thomas Murphy as well her sister and life long companion, Ann Sullivan. She is survived by her children Patrick (Lori), Thomas (Annie), and Kevin (Laura); her 14 grandchildren, Lyndsay McDonald (Mike), Haley Wight (Patrick), Kathryn Murphy (Peter), Tom and Katie Murphy-Piro, Tom, Tara, Patrick, and Erin Murphy, Connor and Kelsey Waite, Sean, Bridget, and Ryan Murphy. She was the great-grandmother of Madelyn and Emma McDonald; as well as Olivia and Ronan Wight.
A lifelong San Franciscan, she attended St. Peter's High School and Lone Mountain College. In 1957, she met the love of her life Tommy Murphy after watching his exploits on the Irish Football field. They were married November 1958 in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland and spent 64 years together living in St. Gabriel's Parish in the Sunset District.
Kay worked for years in the San Francisco School District, but her lifelong dedication was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her selfless and tireless devotion to her children. She showed them unconditional love and support throughout their lives and continued that devotion to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will forever miss our wife, mother and grandmother - but she will live on in all of our hearts with fond memories as the kind, gentle, giving and loving person we all knew and loved.
Friends may visit Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 9:30am and are invited to attend a service at 10:30am at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held at a future date.
