Kathleen Cunnie Obituary

Kathleen Cunnie
05/25/1961 - 08/22/2025
Kathleen (Kathy) Georgette Cunnie passed away on August 22, 2025, in Burlingame, California. Born on May 25, 1961, in San Francisco.
Kathleen was the beloved daughter of John Cunnie and Jacqueline (Auriere) Cunnie, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brother, John Cunnie. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Dan Cunnie (Donna), Jeanine Iacangelo (Mark), and Paul Cunnie (Shawn). Her beloved nephews & nieces: Rob (Colleen), Kristen, Tom(Girlfriend Jen), Camille (Boyfriend Ben), Claire, and Cailyne, her recent addition grand-nephew Cole, and many cousins and friends.
Kathy grew up in Westlake where she attended Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School, then graduated from Presentation High School in San Francisco. Kathy was a proud San Franciscan living her entire life in the "City" and Daly City. After a brief stint at Skyline College, Kathy ventured out to live in various neighborhoods across San Francisco, embracing the city's vibrancy and diversity. Kathy built a meaningful career at Callan, where she made valuable contributions which led to enduring friendships.
Kathy was fiercely independent, living her life on her terms touching many lives along the way. Kathy had a biting wit and was not afraid to make light of herself, and she was consistently the life of the party. Her storytelling will never be forgotten. Kathy endured significant health issues during her life: she overcame stage 4 Ovarian cancer, years prior to the ALS Diagnosis. Those who spent time with her were consistently amazed how she took on her life challenges with steadfast determination, grace, sense of humor, and integrity-Kathy never complained about her circumstances.
Kathy enjoyed travel especially on cruises. One of her favorite journeys was a vacation with our dad to Italy returning home with a wonderful collection of memories. At Christmas, she loved giving gifts from her trips.
Kathy was adventurous having parachuted out of planes on several occasions which inspired her nephews to join her on her last adventure.
She loved spending time with her six nieces and nephews. On the day before she passed, she met (baby) Cole. Though unable to speak, seeing Cole illuminated her eyes with pure love and joy.
Kathy was a devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend whose presence will be profoundly missed. May the memory of her spirit bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Kathy, "Miss ya, Love ya."
Per Kathy's wishes a private celebration of life will be held.
Donations can be made in her honor to the CPMC Foundation "Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research and Treatment Center", 2015 Steiner St., San Francisco, Ca 94115.

I worked closely with Kathleen for many years during our time together at Callan. She was fun, smart, fiercely loyal, honest, and most of all ... the person you could (and would) approach to get things done. You could always count on her for anything. She had a very compassionate heart, which helped me many times no matter the situation. I appreciated her kindness and support throughout our working years together. I was very saddened to learn that she had left us, far too soon. May God bless her always.

Kathleen always said it straight. She made friends with everyone and you knew you could trust her. One short story. Within a couple of weeks of moving into the Pyramid Building, 15 years ago, she had made fast friends with building management and the security team and got me a tour of the very tippy top pointy end of the building. Just one of her magical moves.

God Speed Kathleen.

Kathy was a unique soul that brought light and smiles to each and every person she met. She made sure to enjoy life while she could and she inspired all around her to do the same. We feel blessed to have spent time with her and we will keep her in our hearts forever. Angel & Gary

We were all saddened to hear that Kathleen Cunnie, a former long time Callan associate passed away on August 22, much too early in her life, from ALS, commonly referred to a Lou Gehrig´s disease. I know from my uncle´s experience how tough ALS is to endure and it always wins. Kathleen was tough and a fighter, mostly for Callan as I fondly remember, but also for her family and lifelong friends. I remember Kathleen coming to work one morning and navigating the security gate with a leg she had broken the day before because she had an important client meeting to organize. Inga also reminded me how she stepped up to help when we desperately needed her even though she had just been diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer well before the ALS struck. She still has many friends still at Callan and so many more elsewhere. Kathleen was always fun to be with, always had a good story and laugh, mostly about herself!

In many years of working with Kathleen at Callan, she suffered no fools nor brooked any political correctness but she was always kind and good to me.
Fair winds and following seas, Kathleen.

She was a bright light that always shone throughout our lives in HS. She lived her life with a positivity and gumption that was enviable in light of her health issues. I admired that about her. Her Presentation sisters will miss her immensely...Here are a few pics from High school. Rest well dear Sister.....Deepest condolences to all of her Dear Friends and family....
