Kathleen McLaughlin Obituary

Kathleen Claire McLaughlin

Kathleen Claire McLaughlin died peacefully at the age of 69 on July 7, 2016 surrounded by her family, due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis.

Kathy was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy McLaughlin, loving sister of Ellen Rosenblum (Stephen), the late Stephen McLaughlin (Carolyn), and Mary Guerra (Paul), and aunt to several nieces and nephews.

A San Francisco native, Kathy was a graduate of Star of the Sea Academy and UC Berkeley and received a Master's degree from CSU East Bay. She was a long time City College of San Francisco employee.

Kathy was fiercely proud of her Irish and Portuguese ancestry and also of her athletic prowess. Despite living with MS for over 35 years, Kathy never lost her sense of humor or her interest in the world, family and friends and the SF Giants. She was a friend of Bill W.

Kathy's family is extremely grateful to the staff of S6 at Laguna Honda Hospital who cared for her so lovingly for the past 10 years.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. A reception will follow.

Donations in Kathy's memory may be made to the National MS Society, 733 Third Avenue, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10017.

Star Class of '65 had our 50 year reunion last October.
Just like the rest of us, before the big day, Kathy selected her outfit for the event and laughed with friends remembering those high school times - the funny, the good and the bad.
The day of the reunion, through the help of a number of people, she was able to join us through facetime.
Everyone got a chance to say hi and she responded in kind.
Something so simple meant so much to all of us.
There is a spirit in life that transcends the physical in so many ways and that was her gift.
She is now truly a "Star Shining Bright from Above".
We will miss you, Kath.

Kathy was a Great Sister-in-law and took me into the family as did everyone in her family. I loved her and enjoyed her ability to be so interested in all the people in her life. I loved her sense of humor, too: sometime after the passing of Kathy's brother, my husband, Stephen, i went to visit her at Laguna Honda and she greeted me with, "How's the dating going, Bellis?" I said, "not so good, Kathy." She said, "Well get busy, get it together!" It was funny and so touching, too.
Stephen loved her so much though they would bump heads sometimes. They were so close!
I hope she is with Stephen, and her Mom, Dorothy (another GEM)
Love this Family!! Love you, Kathy!

Kathy was a terrific volleyball player at St. Agnes grammar school and Star of the Sea Academy - we were team players and Kathy was my friend as well as team mate.

Condolences to Kathy's family and know she was loved.

Very truly yours,

Kathy was a friend in deed, and in need. Always shred 1/2 sick of gum in class at Star of the Sea. May her memory be a blessing.
