Ken-Tang Chow Obituary

Ken-Tang Chow September 1, 1923 - June 4, 2006 Born in Shanghai, China before moving to Japan as a child with family, Ken graduated from Mission School in Kobe, Japan. He worked as an interpreter for the U.S. military during World War II in Kobe. After coming to the U.S., Ken attended the University of Iowa at Ames, University of Oregon and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in nuclear physics in 1952. Devoted to his wife and mother of his five sons, Kay Kikuko Murota, from their wedding day June 20, 1952 until her death in Nov. 1988, they made their home in Portola Valley for over four decades. Ken worked as an engineer at Kaiser Engineers after college and then at Lockheed Missiles & Space for many years. Ken founded Electro-Nuclear Labs, Antex Industries and then International Antex in 1974, which he remained president of until he retired last year. An avid traveler, especially throughout Asia, Ken loved his work and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary and sons, Victor Chow, Sebastopol; Jeffrey Chow, Atherton; Timothy Chow, Norwich, VT; Vincent Chow, Diablo; Peter Chow, Menlo Park, and three grandchildren Ciara and Connor Chow and Christina Chow. Ken will be missed by his sisters Helen Imamura, Santa Clara; Chin Hwa Choi, Tokyo; Yin Chui Chow, Kobe and his brother Yen Tang Chow of Kobe and many nieces and nephews both here and in Japan, as well as many friends. Contributions in his memory can be made to Hospice of Contra Costa for the Bruns House of Alamo, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
