Kevin Coughlin Obituary

Kevin John Coughlin

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Kevin John Coughlin, b. 7/5/1948 entered into eternal rest in Redwood City, CA. Born in Tallahassee, FL, to Dr. Paul Coughlin and Claire Busby Coughlin, he graduated Leon High School in '66 before enlisting in the Marines. He proudly served in the Vietnam War, and moved to California in the early 70s. He was very passionate about his service in AA, Peninsula Bible Church, Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, Street Life Ministries and the VA hospital. Kevin worked in the Silicon Valley for 20 years, before responding to his Father's call to become a Chaplain at the VA hospital. At the time of his death he had obtained his M. Div. and was working on his BS in Psychology. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Brian. He is survived by siblings Richard, Louise, Carroll, Hannah, Kathleen, Terry, Tim and Brent; daughters Amy and Melissa; 5 grandchildren; as well as 12 nieces and 9 nephews, and 8 great nieces and 7 great nephews. Mass will be dedicated in his memory at St. Louis Catholic Church, 3640 Fred George Rd, at 6 pm on Saturday, April 6. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Palo Alto VA Hospital (650) 493-5000. Informational updates may be found at www.spanglermortuary.com.

How we miss you at PBC, Kevin. You were a brother, a fellow choir member back in the 90's and a dear friend to so many. We look forward to seeing you again in Glory with Jesus. May the Lord comfort all your family and friends.

I don't think a day has gone by that I don't hear Kevin speak to me -- and I doubt that will change. He inspired me, angered me and ,most of all, he saved me. His memory will live long past my life because I speak about him often, always grateful for his wisdom. He was and always will be "mi padrino". Gracias Kevin.

I called him the first day I was released from an institution. A few years earlier, he'd offer to help me, I was a wreck. I brushed him off.
He met with me, and I am alive today because God put him in my path.
I will always carry you in my heart. Dios Te bendiga hermano Kevin

I've been trying to remember when I met Kevin. I was not older than six and maybe I was five. I'm sorry he's gone and my deepest sympathies to his family.

I am so sad for your loss-Kevin was an amazing and joyfilled person-
Who carried that message to so many others-many days I picture Kevin hear his voice saying go out and make it a great day, unless of course you have made other plans...

On July 17th 1994, an early Monday morning at Goose Creek City Limits in Mt. View, California, I asked Kevin to help me. Since then, he never left my side, ever. I am here, alive today because the Holy Spirit worked through Kevin to save my life. We prayed and broke bread together. Monica, my daughter, got her Dad back, of which we are eternally grateful. Love, The Kral Family from Palo Alto, CA

My deepest condolences to all the Coughlin family. I have warm memories of Kevin and all his brothers and sisters when we lived across the street from each other on 6th Ave. God bless you all!

To all the Coughlin family... I am so sorry to hear that Kevin died. He lived only two blocks away from me here in Redwood City for these last 17 years and we saw each other from time to time and had a few long talks.. he came to our home a few times and I met his lovely granddaughter. I was so impressed with his passion and dedication to finding his way into God's work... he was never at a loss for words!...he worked very hard and became an important member of the helping community here in Silicon Valley... It was always so nice for me to feel.. so far away from Tallahassee and the days at Blessed Sacrament.. that I had such a good old friend just down the block. My deepest sympathies to all.. and Kevin, rest in peace, knowing you did wonderful things here...Kit Cunningham Golson
