Krystal Gilmer Obituary

Krystal Annette Gilmer

February 22, 1963- April 26 2014

Krystal passed away suddenly from complications of diabetes and heart disease on April 26, 2014. She is survived by husband Paul Groarke, four legged daughter Ms. Olive (aka Scooch), mama and boy kitties, sister Kathy Castaneda, brothers Jim Humphries and Jeff Gilmer, nieces Suzette, Stacy, Brooke and Estefanine, nephews Andrew, Nathan and Clayton along with countless friends and loved ones.

Born in Pontiac, Michigan Krystal lived in both Wyoming and Detroit but ended up settling in San Francisco where she left her heart. A Jane of all trades, she started at 15 working at a Denny's cruising around South City in her hard earned powder blue 1965 mustang. She schmoozed the VIPS working at the Admirals club, taught young mothers on welfare nutrition and CPR, and wrangled thoroughbred horses. Prior to being a Richmond District bartender, she was a mortician and because of this, always told her customers she would eventually see them naked. The last 8 years she was the proud owner of the Tee Off Bar and Grill with husband Paul where she created a community of friends with her generosity, wit and acceptance of all people (except assholes.)

Krystal was an Oakland A's fan for life, courageous, strong, smart, real and true. She was classy and sassy, a diva and a soul sista with endless humor and a sharp tongue. She was an extraordinary woman and will be sorely missed.

Cheers.

A tribute and celebration of her life will be held on June 14, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Baker Beach (picnic area). All are welcome.

Krystal...a name never matched a soul as perfectly as yours: SHINING, RADIANT, CLEAR, MESMERIZING & MYSTERIOUS. Above all, a beacon of light, love & laughter. You will be missed, love, Miyuki

The news of Krystal's sudden passing is deeply saddening. Unfortunately I haven't seen Krystal years, we were classmates in high school and someone I would call a friend. She had the ability to make everyone laugh and did so with a kind heart. My condolences to the Gilmer family.

Krystal was whip smart without being cruel or offensive. We would love having a pint and a laugh at Ireland's 32 (Dirty Shoe). Krystal we will miss your wit and your kindness, without a doubt.
The picture chosen for this is a perfect representation of your infectious personality.

I miss seeing your face everytime I walk into the Tee Off. I'd play music on the jukebox and you and I would dance and dance and have shots and dance. You are my favorite Dancing Queen.
Love Erica

Krystal, I will never forget you ... Hearing the news was just heartbreaking. Never saw you without a smile, or your great laugh. Was honored to play at your wedding and be one of your groupies at all the bars you worked. Thanks for all the trays of shots you sent to the stage at the 32, way back in the day! From all the guys in Undercover S.K.A. ... CHEERS! You will be missed. Bob Glynn

Little over a month & I am still having a hard time believing you are gone - on the other hand am sure you have already made twice as many new fans , followers, & admirers @ your new home in the sky. I went to school with Crystal & highly admired her. Always smiling' laughing, & happy. The one cheerleader that was nice to
everybody . After missing school dances, & Friday night activities to work @ Denny's we would always make our last stop @ her booth & there she was working her tail-off waiting tables & still happy to see us & asking all about our evening without ever complaining about missing out. When passing her in the halls I was always greeted by a very enthusiastic " Hey SANTINA -baby , Honey, Sweetie, etc. ". Wondered if she ever really knew my real last-name ! My heart goes out to Paul & the extended family of the Tee-Off Bar. Will join you all on the 14th for one final round for a truly wonderful, loving gal. RIP

Krystal was truly one of the warmest, funniest, and sweetest people in the whole world. She was a wonderful part of San Francisco. She was an old friend of ours, and we will miss her dearly.

I signed this yesterday but Krystal is worth another shot (no pun intended). A complicated, formidable woman who came from very little, Krystal used her brain and drive to successfully accomplish many things. She left her mark on all who knew her, and her spirit lives on--in the Tee Off and all over San Francisco, the city she loved. I hope Krystal finds peace and tranquility now. She will surely be missed!

RIP Krystal - Although it has been years - your smile is still the same. To her family my name is Anita - we went to school together and I'm proud to have been her friend. So sorry she's gone too soon - but you can't say she didn't live - she loved living. To her husband I'm so sorry - I hope you find laughter amongst the tears. So sorry - RIP - Love, Anita Ruiz - South San Francisco and proud of it!

The first time I meet Krystal was when Mario brought me to Last Day Saloon. After hearing Krystal and Josie talk to each other customers I was scared to ever get on her bad side. Thank God I never did. In fact I grew love her as we all did. Too soon to be writing this about her. Krystal you will never be replaced...

I am very sad to hear about this. Krystal was always delightful when I would visit the Tee Off or see her in passing in the neighborhood. Good people. On behalf of the “30DaysOfDebaucheryCrew” we send Paul and her family our condolences. - Ryan
