Laurette Brayer Obituary

Laurette Marie Brayer
01/24/1931 - 09/09/2025
Kind beyond words, loving, always generous and warm. A woman of great strength and determination. Full of fun, vim & vigor. She had a heart big enough to always add another to the table or to her home . Laurette was born with her twin sister Rita in 1931 on a family farm in St. Leon, Manitoba. In 1952, she came to California to help her loving older sister Blanche with Blanche's newborn daughter Diane Fabiano.
Laurette loved California, returning to work on her Visa with Blanche sponsoring her to get a green card in 1955. Back in California, she worked as a butcher in Los Angeles and was a roommate with Marie Krause – a lifelong friend. Then Blanche and Laurette brought their younger sister Simone out to Millbrae where they all lived close to each other. Laurette and Stephen enjoyed trips to see the family in Canada, Lake Berryessa while the kids were growing, and upon retirement their cabin at Lake Tahoe. Laurette delighted everyone with her baking, in particular her cinnamon rolls and fresh baked bread.
Laurette met Stephen Brayer in 1956, and they married in San Francisco on June 30, 1957. She was preceded in death by Stephen. She was the devoted mother of Janet Brayer, Laurie Brayer Winslow and her husband Burney, John Brayer, and Raymond Brayer and his wife Beka. Grandmother to Clark Winslow, Taylor Winslow, Brooke Winslow, Kalib Brayer, Keenan Brayer, and Great Grandmother to Finn Winslow, Grey Wally Winslow, Kira Brayer, and Magnus Brayer.
Dementia slowly overcame her but through it all her kindness and love shined like a never fading star, and everyone caring for her believed she was truly an angel on this earth. She is now at peace with her Lord, her husband Stephen, her twin sister Rita Grenier, her other 5 sisters, her 8 brothers, and countless friends that left ahead of her. Her family was blessed to be embraced by Laurette's love.
Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Dunstan Parish church in Millbrae at 1133 Broadway, and burial at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo/Half Moon Bay.

Yesterday

I have had the honor to meet Laurette on a handful of occasions in the past few years; being a friend of her daughter Jeannette. She was remarkably gracious to me - despite the short time I was able to know her. Moreover, witnessing her daughter Jeannette with her mom; her love, patience & unbreakable endurance...it has given me renewed determination to mirror her efforts with my own mother who is in similar state of returning to God.
