Leola Havard Obituary
Passed away peacefully on May 22, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Charles Havard, loving mother of Frederick (Cassandra) and Jerome (Sharon); caring "Grandma" to four granddaughters, Crystal, Mya, Tara, and Tonya; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Leola, an educator in the San Francisco Public Schools, earned the distinction of having a public school, Leola M. Havard Early Education School, San Francisco, CA, named in her honor during her lifetime.
Leola completed her undergraduate education at Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA and earned the M.A. at San Francisco State University. For thirty years, she was an elementary school teacher in the San Francisco Public Schools. Leola earned the distinction of becoming the first African-American woman administrator and principal during her tenure as a public school teacher. She was an active member of the Third Baptist Church, San Francisco.
Friends may visit Tuesday, May 29, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. A viewing will also be at Third Baptist Church, 1399 McAllister Street, San Francisco from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. and Interment Olivet Memorial park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leola M. Havard Early Education School, 1520 Oakdale Avenue, San Francisco, CA. 94124
