Leonor Gardner Obituary

Leonor Nunez Gardner Leonor Nunez Gardner passed away peacefully in her home in Oakland, CA, December 1, 2008. She was surrounded by family on Thanksgiving Day, many were with her on the eve of her death. Leonor was born November 6, 1923 in Jerome, AZ, to Manuela and Marcos Nunez. Leonor was the wife of 44 years to the late Wendell W. Gardner. Leonor will always be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She raised Wendell's son, John Joseph Gardner, as if her own from the age of 3 and always his loving mother. She also was the step mother of Wendell's older sons Gregory Clay Gardner and Michael Jeffery "Jeff" Gardner. One of five children, Leonor is survived by her sister Lupe Nunez Flores; and brothers Baldomero and Reuben. She was preceded in death by her brother, Manuel. Leonor was adored by nine grandchildren: Robert, Timothy, Michael, Tami, Jenna, Cory, Joshua, Marisa and Gianna. Leonor was survived by nieces and nephews who also adored her: Roberta "Bobbie" Flores Nunez, Victor Nunez, Anne Nunez Wilson, and Valerie and Clarissa Nunez. She was truly devoted to her family. Leonor enjoyed a career in retail service for H.C. Capwell's Men's Furnishings in Oakland for over 20 years. Leonor had a love for learning and appreciation for arts and sciences, as she was a supporter and member of educational foundations. Friends and family are invited to attend a church service on Friday, December 5 at 10:30AM at St. Augustine's Church, 400 Alcatraz Ave, Oakland.

John,
I loved your mother so very much. She was always so wonderful to me through all the years that I knew her. I will miss her very, very much. It was especially hard on me that due my own illness I wasn't able to pay my respects to this amazing woman.
I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and in my prayers. Both Mandy and I wish to extend our heartflet sympathies at this time.
