My memories of Bishop Kelly began at the Leigh Street Methodist Church, now Wesley Memrial UMC. She, along with her late husband, James David Kelly, were an spiritual element to my mother
and my brothers, as we were later faced with difficult family issues. She was one of two ministers
who shared in the funeral service of my
mother 39 years ago. I later served as
organist at Galiee UMC, in Edwardsvills
Virginia, following the death of her husband. Bishop Kelly offered many moments of spiritual comfort and provided a since of humor to keep one going. I later served as her organist at Asbury UMC/ChurchHill, until my departure to Pittsburgh, where she continued to offer words of encouragement towards educational values. To the family, I offer my deepest sympathy in the loss a "Great" spiritual leader in the Methodist Church. May you have fond memories of her devotion to her family and to her God. May she rest in peace.
Peace and Blessings,

To the family of Bishop Kelly; our prayers are with you at this very sad time.

Indeed, the loss of your mother, mother-in-law and grandmother must be difficult to comprehend. But, knowing how devoted she was to her family, her church and her community over all of these years is a warm way to remember her.

Kind regards,

"The heights of great men(people) reached and kept
Were not obtained in a sudden flight
But they, as their companions slept,
Toiled upward in the night"
Bishop Kelly did "toil", setting a high standard for us to work toward.
Thank you family for sharing her with us.

Words can hardly express my sorrow with the passing of Bishop Kelly. It was under her leadership at Asbury United Methodist Church that I entered the Ministry. She was more than my Pastor; she was a voice of reason and patience. Upon my return to Richmond, she provided the insight necessary for one new in the Ministry! During my struggle with my then new wife, her wise counsel was the calming balm I so desperately needed. Her impact will forever resonate within me. In addition to the pain of her passing, I only wish I could have had the opportunity to sit and her side and grow in my quest to serve as one of God's chosen. Her spirit will forever remain with me. A Graduate of Virginia Union Univ. and Gammon Seminary.
