While in hospice care, Lim died of cancer. A long-time employee of the City and County of San Francisco, Lim also enjoyed traveling throughout the world, where he avidly collected thousands of opera and classical music memorabilia and recordings, eventually accumulating an outstanding collection named the Magnificat Library. Lim generously shared his expansive knowledge of classical music history with such noted music scholars as Robert Cowden, Leo Riemens and K.J. Kutsch. Lim is survived by his brother, William, and sister, Helen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His collection will go to Stanford University's Music Library and the San Francisco Public Library.
Remembrances may be sent to Stanford University Music Library, Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, and the Virtual Museum of the City of San Francisco.
