Lindbergh Low Obituary

Lindbergh "Lindy" Low
10/12/1929 - 02/21/2026
Lindy Low passed away on February 21st after a short illness at age 96, with family members by his side. He was born on October 12, 1929, just 2 years after Charles Lindbergh's famous non-stop flight from New York to Paris....which inspired his name. Lindy was born in San Francisco's Chinatown to immigrant parents (Chong On Leu and Shee Leung) who owned a restaurant and instilled the lifelong ethics of hard work and family. He attended St Mary's elementary school, Polytechnic high school (1947) and City College. He went on to the University of California, Berkeley where he graduated in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He met the love of his life, Rose Yee, in 1952 while a temporary boarder in Rose's family home in Sacramento. They married in 1954 after serving in the Army. They recently celebrated 71 years of marriage, one grounded in bountiful admiration and mutual respect, a magical love, and an unwavering commitment to family. Rose and Lindy instilled those same values in their three children - Gary, Patti & Roger - for whom he beamed with pride at their professional achievements and the families they nurtured.
Lindy had a successful career as an Engineer, spending his last 20 years working in various capacities for the SF Redevelopment Agency, Muni, Port Authority and Public Works. But he worked to live, not the opposite. He radiated an abundance of warmth and compassion to family and friends, including to those he may have just met. He remained a diehard Cal Bears fan throughout his life, regularly attending games, especially on his birthday when he delighted in seeing his name up on the jumbotron. His Cal Tailgate crew brought him so much joy and he insisted that every season was " going to be the one!".
It is said that one who achieves success has lived well, laughed often, and loved much. Lindy Low surely succeeded in all three measures. He is survived by his beloved wife Rose, his daughter Patti (and granddaughter Mollie), and his son Roger and daughter-in-law Eschelle (and grandsons Hayden and Harrison). He is predeceased by his siblings, George, Mabel and Aida and his beloved son, Gary in 2020. Lindy is also survived by his sister Eva as well as 31 nieces and nephews. The family will be planning a celebration of life at a future date. Donations in Lindy's memory can be sent to Tung Sen Association (checks mailed to 1129 Stockton St., San Francisco, CA 94133).
