Lisa Wiborg Obituary

Lisa Wiborg
Lisa Wiborg 1925-2024
The Grande Dame of the Scandinavian community and beyond left us all on September 4, 2024. This despite the fact that she had been carefully planning her 100th Birthday! Lisa Wiborg stemmed from Örebro, Sweden where she finished school, worked as a bank clerk and volunteered for Swedish auxiliary forces during WWII. In the early fifties she won a scholarship to London and was thus bitten by the travel bug. In 1954 she embarked on a journey to the U.S. which landed her in a new life in her favorite destination: San Francisco. She instantly found a new job as a bank clerk at American Trust Company; nowadays Wells Fargo. She also found her calling as organizer for the Swedish community. There is NO Swedish organization in the Bay Area that has not benefited from her skills, relentlessness, volunteering and dish washing. No task too big or too small! She hobnobbed delightedly with everyone from royalty and socialites to kitchen staff. She started the Lucia celebration at the Young Scandinavians Club, initiated the purchase of Tahoe cabins and orchestrated fundraisers and balls. Lisa was also honored with the Vasa Order First Class by HM the King of Sweden in 1984!
The most defining moment was in 1964, when at a reception for the then Crown Prince of Norway, Harald, now HM King of Norway, she met Christian Wiborg, a ship broker from Kragerö, Norway. After a whirlwind romance they were married that same year. They had 15 fantastic years together until his tragic passing in 1979. Lisa Wiborg had thus also added Norway and Norwegian causes to her dedicated volunteer list. In later years she rekindled an old close friendship with Jan Lewenhaupt until his passing at 102 years young. Lisa was dedicated to all of her causes until the end and leaves behind an extremely deep imprint on all of us.
