Mr. Lou Meyer was the dad of my best friend Chris growing up across the street and I still think of him as the rock of Thune Avenue.
Mr. Meyer was the first American dad I knew, having moved to Moraga after arriving here from Korea as a young boy. Through all the childhood shenanigans with Chris, Mr. Meyer was there to instill in me an indelible vision of the American values that I respect today in other men - command and sharing of knowledge, discipline, fairness and authenticity. He also opened my mind with his outdoorsmanship and do-it-yourself nature - his trove of tools, hunting rifles and frequent wheelbarrowing of gravel around the yard, things you don't see in Korea.
Simply put, Mr. Meyer was a childhood hero to me and will always be remembered in that light. Kathy and I extend our love to Chris, Michelle, Louis and the entire Meyer family.

My deepest sympathies to my cousins on the passing of their very special father, and to my Aunt on the passing of her dear brother.
Although I was not able to spend as much time with my uncle as I would have liked, I kept up with things through my mother and an occasional telephone call with him. But I really got to reconnect with him and know him on a deeper level about 7 years ago when my family and I spent about a week with him and my Aunt Ginnie in Moraga and then went up to Pollock Pines for the weekend. It was a long overdue bonding experience for me personally. He was so good with my kids, teaching them to shoot a bow and arrow, how to play bumper pool, and then catching a black widow spider in a glass jar and putting it on display for them to experience (yes, he did that in his 70's!!). People (particularly family) were so incredibly important to him and I can hardly think of a conversation where he didn't bring up a friend or relative that he'd run in to, got in contact with, had a story about, or heard something about. He was perfectly suited for the role of Patriarch: a true people person with great passion for his family, a wise mind, and exceptional retention for names and life events. These qualities are what helped make him da man in our family. Anything and everything having to do with family, you went to him. His passing will leave a huge void that I'm not sure will ever be filled. I will miss him for the man he was and what he meant to our family, and sadly, always regret not spending more time with him. We have now lost 3 incredible people in our family in the last 2 years.

It was an honor to be Lou's friend. We used to hang out together in the days before we settled down, got married and raised our families. Quite simply, Lou was the real deal, an authentic human being and a helluva man. It was only after he got back in touch with me last year that I realized what an enormous effect he had had on my life in all the years in between. He and Ginnie and a band of friends taught me some plain human values that I had not learned anywhere else. I am grateful to Lou, to Ginnie, and to the Real People we hung out with in those precious days. I will not forget them! Bob Kupa'a Smith

To the Meyer Family;
Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the passing of Lou. I remember him from my days as a student at Sacred Heart. He would always say hello. then when I came back to coach at SHCP he would take the time to stop and chat and see how I was doing and things were going with the team. He will be missed but his legacy lives on at SHCP.
