Louise McGinley Obituary

Louise McGinley (1922-2008) Louise McGinley, a San Francisco artist, died from respiratory failure on December 31, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James McGinley; her three daughters, nephew, five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Louise McGinley was born in Mt. Blanchard, OH and came to San Francisco to attend the University of California, Berkeley from which she graduated in 1944. She attended the San Francisco Art Institute and was part of the Bay Area art scene. She was a successful sculptor of allegorical vignettes rich with political and social commentary. Louise showed at a number of galleries and the Museum of Modern Art carries one of her works. She was also an avid lover and supporter of the Opera. She will be greatly missed by her family.

I was fortunate to know Louise. She brought me into her home and art studio in basement of Clayton Street home san francisco.I was 9 years old.

I really enjoyed her art and sense of humor. I have fond childhood memories of playing in the Clayton Street house with Johnny Gofman and the McKinley daughters.
