Lucille Louderback Obituary

Lucille Louderback
10/22/1937 - 08/31/2024
Lucille Frances Louderback passed away on August 31, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 86 years old. She lived a full life of service to her family, friends, and students.
Lucille Freia was born on October 22, 1937, in Los Angeles, to Camille and Josefine Freia. She had an older sister, Joanne, and younger brother, Joseph, and sister, Carla. She is survived by her three sons, Marc, John, and James; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
As a young person, education was important to her. The sciences really stimulated her curious brain. Lucille applied that curiosity at Sacred Heart High School in Los Angeles.
She married Hugh Louderback in 1965, and settled in Oakland, Calif. Lucille and Hugh started their family, and were active in the community and St. Theresa's Parrish. While Hugh was teaching in Berkeley, Lucille invested herself into building a home for the family. She applied her creativity and skills to enhance their house, nurture the garden, cook great meals, and have fun.
In the late '70s, Lucille felt the pull to her passion, education. She got her Master's degree in education at Holy Names College, and eventually started teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade math and science at St. Theresa's Elementary School. She continued to teach when Hugh and Lucille moved to Carmel.
Lucille enjoyed watching sports with her family and attended many games watching Hugh coach and her boys play. It was tough for her to watch close games when the pressure was on, but she was always there to show her support.
While Alzheimer's took away a lot, it could not take away Lucille's smile and love of other people. She often gave her caregivers and other residents at Ivy Park of Pleasanton a big smile, kisses on the cheek, and would say "I love you."
Lucille's presence touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/

Hugh and I worked together for 30 years. Hugh, Lucille, Helen and I were neighbors when our children were young and friends throughout my time at Saint Mary's.

Lucille and I were close friends in the convent and were in contact during the years following. May she now be resting in peace!
