Mafalda (Maughelli) Flaviani was born in Glen Lyon, PA. At 13 she and her family moved to San Francisco where she later met and married Ignazio
Flaviani. During their 53 years of marriage they raised six children.
Mafalda was a UC Berkeley Graduate and worked as a microbiologist for the State Public Health Dept. She enjoyed lapidary, cooking, quilting, and swimming. She and Ignazio enjoyed events and traveling with their friends from the SF Italian Athletic Club.
She was an active member at St. Thomas Apostle, and St. Monica's churches and later streamed St.Theresa's masses. As a devout Catholic she became a eucharistic minister, and led a church group who cooked and delivered meals to local shelters.
Mafalda passed away peacefully on April 3rd. She is survived by her children Victor, (Laura), Mark, (Penelope), Anna, Sandra, Mario, (Daniela) and Angela Flaviani. Grandchildren Geoffrey and Kiara Flaviani, Olivia and Carina Bagley. Niece and nephew Elena and Flavio Flaviani, and family in California, Pennsylvania and Italy. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Ignazio, her sister Mary, her parents Luisa and Giuseppe Maughelli, and in-laws, Edmondo, Ofelia and Gabriele Flaviani. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be held on April 10 after 5pm with a rosary at 6:30 PM at the Evergeen Mortuary of McAvoy O'Hara Company in SF. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated April 11 at 11am at St Monica's Church, in S.F. Committal Italian Cemetery, Colma.
