Manfred Muhlberg Obituary

Manfred Muhlberg

December 26, 1936 - February 16, 2018

Manfred Muhlberg, 81, died Friday, Feb. 16, in his Daly City home after a brief illness. He was surrounded by generations of loved ones at the time of his passing. Manfred leaves behind his loving wife Darlene Muhlberg; sons Werner and Marcus Muhlberg; step-daughters Debra Muhlberg, Barbara Nordman and Laurie Gaggero; grandchildren Dean, Allison, Matthew, Steven, Lucas and Matteo; and a great-granddaughter on the way. He also leaves behind sisters Flory, Helga, Draudl, and Erika, and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Ilse.

Manfred was born to Heinz and Stephanie Muhlberg in 1936, in Hamburg, Germany. In 1958 he came to the U.S. and started a motorcycle shop, chasing a passion for mechanics and racing. "Fred," as loved ones called him, went on to work at machine shops across the Bay Area, ending his career as a machinist at Grove Valve and Regulator Co., from which he retired.

Family and friends will gather at a Celebration of Life on Friday, March 16, at 12 p.m. at the Basque Cultural Center at 599 Railroad Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080.

Leaving me with fond memories of are times spent together as my Sponsor /Tuner. Our early days working together at Honda of San Francisco , my self, fresh out of high school chasing parts at Hap Jone's distributors . Fred, head mechanic trouble shooter innovator. Would go on to tune for the nations top amateur who would later become a world champion in road racing.
And of course the highly contested poker games at Ron Grants house you would hear Freds German accent over the card game buzz and in the company of many different AMA/AFM Racers that would join the fracas.
Always a gentlemen no mater the situation at hand.
My condolences to the family.
