Manuel Del Prado Obituary

Manuel J. Del Prado

Aug. 21, 1926 – May 21, 2018

Manuel Joaquin Del Prado passed away at the age of 91. Born in the Philippines Manuel joined the US Navy as a Steward in 1945 aboard the USS Haven. He began a 20-year service with the Navy and Air Force serving at the end of WW II, the Korean Conflict & Vietnam. After his retirement as a Staff Sergeant from the Air Force in 1967 Manuel and his family settled down in Daly City, CA. He continued to work as a civilian at Lettermen's Army Medical Center in the Presidio, for the U.S. Post Office and later at Garden Village Elementary School in Broadmoor.
Nothing was more important to Manuel than his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mercedes Fernandez Del Prado to whom he was married to for 64 years; his children Norm, Nanette (Bill), Nicole (Nicole) and Nina (Mike); grandchildren Alicia Del Prado Boquiren (Joel) and Sean Callahan and his great grandsons Ethan & Mason.
To his family, Manuel or "Papa" will be remembered as an attentive, quiet and proud man who was always more interested to know how and what his family was doing than speaking about himself. He loved to help and support his family. Papa could fix anything: change the brakes on your car, sew a torn blanket or cook the best fried chicken and Papa loved his desserts!
Viewing from 4pm-9pm May 29 and Rosary at 7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City.
Funeral Mass at 10:30 am May 30 at Our Lady of Mercy, 1 Elmwood Dr., Daly City, CA 94015. Reception to follow.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends during this difficult time. There are no words that can describe the pain of losing someone so beloved. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that your loved one is in God's memory because those who pass on "are precious in his eyes." Psalms 116:15; 1 John 4:9.

There are no words to ease the pain of losing a loved one. Dad was a kind and gentle soul. I will always remember his childlike giggles, his interest in whatever was going on in my life, and his unconditional love for his family. Thank you, Papa, for giving Alicia your whole heart.

I am truly sorry for your loss. May the God of comfort give you peace and strength during this difficult time.
