Marin Bright Obituary
September 14, 1958 - January 28, 2024
Marin Bright, beloved founder and CEO of Bright Business Media LLC and Smart Meetings passed away Jan. 28, 2024 following complications from surgery after a fall.
She was born September 14, 1958 at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, Nevada to Patti Burke and James Bright. She was predeceased by both of her parents.
She is survived by her son Quentin Troussieux, her former spouse Luc Troussieux, her sister Sue (Bright) Smith, her brother-in-law, Jim Smith and many nieces and a nephew. She loved being a mother.
Marin grew up in Reno, and attended Jesse Beck Elementary, Swope Middle School, and Reno HS. She was a very active supporter of women's rights and graduated from Mills College, Oakland, California.
Marin, a hospitality industry veteran for over 40 years, created Smart Meetings in 2002. She pioneered appointment-based hosted buyer events, launched one of the first websites in the meetings industry and the first consumer-style trade publication, Smart Meetings magazine.
Marin received industry-wide recognition for her leadership, including WPA Distinction in Leadership Award and two consecutive Folio Top Women in Media Awards, a Legend in the Northern California chapter of PCMA and was named to Eventex's list of 100 Most Influential People in the Event Industry.
The family requests that those wishing to make a remembrance for Marin do so with a contribution to the SEARCH Foundation, which provides funds for meeting planners in need.
