Miss your happy face and laugh. You were so generous and kind to me when we worked at The Emporium. You decorated my office when I was promoted to Direct Mail Home Art Director. What fun we had after work with Rene Vergez on Friday nights! Laughing ourselves silly! So glad you were in my life at that time. Love to you always, Jane Silva Clutton XXXXXXX

In a phrase, Mark can be described as a gentleman and a scholar. He and I grew up in the Bay Area as cousins and kept in touch throughout our lives. I loved Mark and his ease with conversation and never making anyone feel dumb, even though he was much more informed on an intellectual level than most of his interlocutors. I was fortunate to see him this past summer and see the outstanding décor in his home. He had worked hard to make it an elegant place with many distinguishing design features. My husband and I had a perfect Mark Dixon Day by going to an exhibit at the DeYoung Museum, taking a tour around San Francisco (and Mark really knows the history and architecture of San Francisco), talking about German history, genealogy, politics and cars (mostly with Brian!), and ending with a lunch on the Bay. He died much too young and I will miss him greatly! A toast to Mark and civil discourse which we see too little of these days!

I am tremendously saddened to learn of the passing of my wonderful friend and intellectual comrade Mark Eyring Dixon. Mark and I met on the patio of some SOMA watering hole a few years back and became fast friends. At first glance a friendship sprouting between a libertarian, as Mark described himself, and an ossified Stalinist, as he described me, would seem unlikely if not impossible. Surprisingly, and to my enormous delight, it took root and flourished. Our friendship consisted primarily of involved discussions-and frequently arguments-regarding European history, esp. the legacy of the socialist world, the ongoing metamorphosis of San Francisco from a and the sad state of American politics. I was particularly impressed by Mark's decision to support Bernie Sanders' efforts to secure the Democratic presidential nomination, even if it was based primarily upon his loathing of the "dynastic" qualities of her opponent's campaign. Mark, I've not doubt that you're gazing upon us from on high, smoldering Marlboro in one hand and double Stoly cranberry in the other. I love you very much, and mourn your loss tremendously.

I went to Westport High School with Mark and we attended the same church. There was never a dull moment with Mark around. He had a great sense of humor and it makes me smile to remember him. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. Jan Kirby Diaz

Mark has so many friends who loved him here in Louisville where he grew up. It's almost time for his annual pilgrimage here for Derby Week! I will miss his humor, sarcasm, and intelligence, as will many others. We will have a celebration honoring Mark here in Louisville on June 4.

I went to Westport High School with Mark and graduated with him in 1972.
He was a wonderful person and we became even better friends after high school.
He was brilliant, fun and charming and I will miss him terribly, but he will be one of those souls who is always remembered in a very positive good way. May God bless him.

Mark,
You lived life fully and made the world brighter with your wit and wisdom. This was just the "first act" and now you are shining in another. You will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Mark. I only knew him the short time I attended Westport High School, but that was long enough to make a lasting impression. My condolences to his immediate and extended family.
