Mark Reiss Obituary

Mark David Reiss
06/24/1933 - 11/26/2025
Mark David Reiss passed away peacefully in his San Francisco apartment while taking part in one of his favorite pastimes, watching a Golden State Warriors game. He lived a full life as a physician, accomplished pianist, loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was born in New York City to Manny and Lee Reiss, studied piano and thought about a musical career but ultimately chose medicine, becoming part of the first graduating class of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. While there he met his wife Joan Reinhardt Reiss, of blessed memory, and they eventually moved to Sacramento with their two children Craig and Justine where he joined Radiological Associates, a thriving medical practice.
Mark was married to Joan Reinhardt Reiss for 64 years and is survived by his children Craig (Cheryl) and Justine Reiss, sister Florence Reiss Kraut (Allen), sister-in-law Joyce Moskowitz (Paul) and grandchildren Alana, Reese, Julian and Kellan.

Joan and mark were friends from the minute we met them. My mountain biking buddy and our century rides taught us about resilience ,intergenerational friendship and generosity. They opened their home for holidays and welcomed us into their fold in so many ways. I have thought of them often these past few years and am saddened to read of their passing. They were an epic couple who left imprints of optimism, curiosity and only footprints behind.

I just read about Mark's passing, and I wanted to extend my sincere condolences to the family. I met Mark and Joan when we all lived in Sacramento. Although I served as a financial advisor to them, we became friends as well and when they moved to SF, I would drive in to see them, to review accounts, and then to just share time over dinner and wine. I have wonderful memories of the time we spent together. They both were interesting and talented people and the world will miss them.
