MARK WACHTER Obituary


Mark Richard Wachter
Nov. 26, 1933 - Sept. 1, 2012
Adopted by Dave and Dora Wachter of San Francisco in 1940, attended Lowell HS, UC Berkeley, C.C.A.C. Oakland, and Teacher Corps. He was an artist, photographer and art teacher in Mill Valley, Art Director of Camp Swig and taught Art History at The Redwoods til the end of his life. Mark shared his love of nature with friends and family, and his appreciation of Eastern philosophy and Buddhism. He worked for the peace movement in the 1960's and was an activist in the civil rights movement, joining the march in Selma, Alabama. He married Oralee Roberts in 1955, and is survived by their children, Stephen, Paul and Beth Wachter, six grandchildren Benjamin, Natalie, Jason, Becky, Zachary and Olivia, twin great- grandsons Max and Alex, and his adopted brother Tom Boyd. Friends are invited to a memorial service at The Redwoods, in Mill Valley, Sept 29 at 3:00 p.m. For the many people whose lives he touched "He will live on in the deeds of goodness he performed and in the hearts of those who shared his memories."

I'm so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. We haven't had much contact in the past 30 years, but I have fond memories of Mark. I know his family and friends will miss him a lot. My sympathy to the family.

Mark Wachter was my 4th grade teacher and someone that I have always remembered.He did great projects and always made you feel great about yourself. We were lucky to have him at Old Mill School. RIP Mark-
