To the Eber Family:
My heartfelt sympathy to you on the sudden passing of Marty.
He was kind enough to visit me in China with his wife, Jeannie and his father in law, Howard. My son and I spent a lovely evening with them in Beijing and on one of my infrequent visits back to the Bay Area, Marty and I followed up with a lunch at our favorite restaurant, North Beach were he and I spoke of working together when I returned from China.
I recently resettled my family in the Bay Area and went to the Sacramento Seminar today only to be told he had passed a few weeks ago.
Rest in Peace, Marty.
Kind regards,
Bruce Quan

I am so saddened to learn just now of Marty's passing. He made an impact in this world and in the causes he believed in. I will always remember his toast at my wedding and his comforting words at my husband's funeral. Marty was gifted in his way with words, and in his deeds. Condolences to his entire family, and may his memory be for a blessing.

Marty was truly a mensch. I am eternally grateful that Marty took me under his wing when I came from Chicago and started to practice law in San Francisco in his law firm. I also have the privilege of attending many of the Friday afternoon lunches in North Beach over a bowl of pasta and thoroughly enjoining the lively art of political discussions. Marty had incredible insight and wisdom in the art and science of politics and was an astute attorney practitioner. He was a master craftsman. I will miss him dearly. I cherish the last time Marcia and I saw him at Big Picnic at stern Grove this summer. He was happy to be there and I will always remember his smiling face.

Marty was wonderful! We worked together in the 60's when we were part of the "Youth for Brown" committee - Edmund G. 'Pat' Brown - we continued working together later for George Moscone - Marty was his 'sometimes driver' - Marty's parents came to San Francisco and he pointed out all the catholic churches and his parents asked him what was with the churches and Marty explained that he was driving Moscone to the bingo games! Marty was wonderful and my deepest sympathy for his family.

A very sad time for us all; a huge loss. Marty enjoyed the music of Johnny Cash and it reminded me of this quote: "God gives us life and takes us away as he sees fit" - Johnny Cash
