Martin Padilla Obituary

Martin "Marty" Padilla A long time resident of Pinole, died Thursday August 28, 2008. He was 51. In 1980, he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Welfare and by 1982 also a Master of Science in Counseling both at California State University in Sacramento. In 1991, he married Nanette Barce in Berkeley, CA., and had since been with her for 17 exceptional years. Martin was very passionate about his job and had devoted 17 years as instructor for disabled adults at Evergreen Program - East Bay Services for the Developmentally Disabled and 19 years as evening/Saturday monitor/supervisor for Contra Costa College. He became fondly known at Contra Costa College as "the Dean of Darkness", having ardently fulfilled most of the campus requirements during the evening shift. He was well liked by his colleagues, family and friends, always cordial and remained a faithful, loving husband, son and brother. Martin was a sports aficionado and was always an eager and fervent spectator of most sporting events like baseball, football and particularly track & field events. He was an avid reader and likewise enjoyed traveling and hiking mostly in the Yosemite area. He cared for his pets and was delighted at taking photographs of nature and its wildlife inhabitants. He was very fond of volunteering his time at the animal shelter. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Nanette; parents, Joseph and Joanna Padilla; sisters, Linda Macedo and Teri Soares; mother-in-law, Alice Barce; brothers-in-law, Steve Soares, Dan Macedo and Randy Barce; nephews, Charles Padilla, David and Tommy Soares; nieces, Becky and Stephi Macedo, Janine Barce, Christina and Jennifer Padilla and longtime pals, Bob and Lita Siebenthal and Robert and Mitzi Nguyen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Padilla. Martin was very diligent and passionate about his work. But more importantly, he was a patient, sincere and very understanding person who will be missed by all who have come to know him. Private Services have already been held by the family. Contra Costa College will hold a memorial service on Sept. 8, 2008 in LA-100 of the campus. Donations can be made to Contra Costa College for a Scholarship fund in Martin's name or to the Fairmont, Hayward and Pinole Animal Shelters. SUNSET VIEW MORTUARY (510) 525-5111

I am thinking of you Nanette. Martin was such a great man and you two were such a cute couple. I will always remember the night we went dancing at the Park. Please let me know if you need anything.
Love
Kristi
